Kevin Sullivan

Kevin is an Age Group Coach for the Queens. He joined Aces in late 2004, and has been developing and becoming more excited about the teams' advancement since then. While coaching the Queens he often employs the knowledge he has gleaned in his years swimming and coaching experience. When he swam in high school his coaches were Mark Collings and Matt Harveson, whom Kevin credits with helping him develop him as a competitive swimmer. He has developed as a competitive swim coach under Arapahoe's Mike Richmond. From Richmond he has learned many different schools of thought on training athletes to excel. Most of the training that Kevin coaches is based on the process that overall swimmers must be endurance based. He works towards swimmers being built to take long, arduous, high yardage workouts so that they will be in the best cardiovascular shape they can possibly be in when they compete. He also values diversity in swimming, which is that all swimmers are able to be competitive in all the events they are eligible for. He also feels that anytime he has an opportunity to learn and further himself as a coach that he must take advantage. He feels that coaches are always learning and adapting, to the benefit of their swimmers. He looks to other coaches, such as Tom Byorick and Eric Craven for other ideas and thoughts as to how to become a more experienced, and better coach.

His other coaching background includes being an Assistant Varsity Coach for the Arapahoe H.S. Girls and Boys team. He began with the Girls in the 2002-2003 season, and the Boys in the 2004 season. He also has been a head summer club swim coach since 2001. Additionally, he was an assistant at Columbine in the 1998 for the Girls season.

As far as his swimming background, he swam starting when he was 4 years old, every summer until he was 18. During his high school years at Columbine (Class of 1997), he swam all four years, lettered all four years, and he was also named an All-Conference swimmer his Junior and Senior years. He then attended the University of Tampa, where he swam for less than a year. After Tampa he returned home to graduate from Colorado State University (Class of 2002), with a B.A. degree in Sociology. In addition to his love of coaching he began working at Arapahoe H.S. as a Para-Professional in 2005.
